Seriously, its a good game, with room to improve. They've made a good jump forward with NF. We'll see what's in store in the future, and if they can keep the line of progress.

cheers, Makk.

hmm, seeing as I have never watched harry potter...I wonder how I quoted him.

And gwp is still my favorite chapter...I like nightfall second and factions, well, I got my 4 gwp characters thru it (2 with protector titles) and 2 of 3 canthans thru it.....dont think my elonians will visit however, but they will go back to tyria (at least for some free skills on my ele). So I am not really looking forward to chapter 4, but with 8 characters now to get thru nightfall I dont think I will be ready when my 6 months are up anyways.
I might be ready by chapter 5 though!

Congrat's and Thanks ANet on making such a brilliant game!

Those who post negatively obviously have strong feelings about your product, and I would take that as a left-handed compliment because you've managed to create an environment that people can get involved in deeply enough that they will take the time and energy to complain when you change some part of their new love in a way they do not like, or, when you make a decision they feel endangers their paramour they become defensive!

In a way...if you think about it...even those negative posts are praise on a job well done!

I find nightfall to be an excellent game.

HOWEVER, I find that the updates have made the previous games no longer any fun. Currently I've been playing through prophecies (with a character born there) and with the changes to AI and heroes, it is becoming impossible to do anything by myself (without relying on guildies). What were once easy missions with hench are no longer, and where once you could get a group, it's almost impossible. I think the simple fact is, while their business model is excellent from a make money perspective, allowing anyone to buy any campaign and jump in, it is terrible for community aspects as it is slowly killing off earlier campaigns, and the trend will continue. We will never have a large influx back to Tyria, just will not happen unless they do something to make it happen. As I read before, I am critical of the game, but that's because I enjoy it so much, it meshes so many of my favorite past times (magic the gathering + diablo 2 anyone?), and I don't want to see earlier sections die off as they are.

I'll start with a confession: until I bought GWP, I did not play RPGs. I disdained the fantasy elements for some reason (although I've read a number of fantasy books that interested me). Prophecies intrigued me upon its release, but I resisted buying it: what if I dropped my 50 bucks for a game that I didn't like?
Instead, I happily played Madden and Need for Speed and Sim City 4.... and played Madden for a LOT of time. A fantasy game? pish.
But I tired of Madden. What to buy? I looked again at GW and said, worth a try.
That was early last spring. Since then, Madden hasn't been booted on my computer. I bought Tiger Woods golf at the same time, installed it...and promptly ignored it.

So I give mad props to ANet for making a game that could hook someone who really wasn't a fantasy gamer, or an RPGer...I didn't even do action games / shooters much. And then Factions came...and that was even more exciting. As I've accumulated hours, I could point to things that I would like changed. But they're minor tweaks.
Then there was Nightfall. What a joy. Right pace, right mobs, right storyline. The Prophecies story was convoluted; I didn't understand the story for quite a while; the factions story was interesting but strained credulity. But NF? well, I'm a revolutionary! what could be more exciting than fighting an unjust ruler interested in armageddon?
My compliments first for hooking me--then for keeping me interested.

Best game ever? It's up there, great work Anet
Agree 100%. Now I can finally get missions done, without having to depend on others, and especially ones where nobody has been for months. (Wilds, Aura Glade for example.)

Zombies Ate My Neighbours (Super Nintendo) will always be the best

Thank you for a very heart-warming thread. It's very kind of many of you to post here, and I know that all of us on the Dev Team appreciate hearing this voice, amongst all those to which we also listen, I promise you.

I was a fan forum moderator, once, long ago in a different life. I appreciate the mods here taking a gentle hand, and allowing this thread to continue without the intrusion seemingly-obligatory negative comments. Honestly, people, nobody claims the game is perfect. Nobody feels that there isn't room for improvement. Nobody pretends that this thread will wash away all the concerns of the world, and that, having read and responded to this, all those dozens of others will somehow be negated.

Please, let's enjoy this thread. Let those of us who love the game--of which yes, I am one--to take a moment to enjoy the moment, if you will.

Thanks.

I could ruin the moment by adding some filthy remarks about the people at Gamespot ripping up the GW universe like no tomorrow; but hey everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. Even though it might take some time to get used to, the criticism. It sometimes sounds like sharp metallic claws on a chalk board.

People should stand back and look at the whole picture besides the one dangling in front of their faces. I will be honest the reason why I enjoy the GW universe so much more then it’s competition, is because of the set up of the whole server system. Many games out there will charge people to play their games by monthly or annual fees, but GW is one of the few that does not. In some ways that takes the cake, I would hate to see games become under the category “pay as you go;” even though the service could be free, but the developer or the publisher decides they want to make a quick buck.

Yes all games have inherited flaws within, but does that make them failures; the answer should be “no” because there is always room for improvement. I’ve been a critic to way the industry has carried itself either by fan or by corporate CEO. A-net as far I can see has fast-paced themselves so far in an equal and unique by taking risks that sometimes can be daunting. As long as you don’t say “we give up,” people will still back you; as whole heartfelt people who were willing enough to bring something verily unique and entertaining to the gaming medium. Congratulation A-team you’ve done it again.

If I get a 15$ fee next month, it's your head on the platter.

Negative posts have their use. They tell ANet where the problems lie. As we have seen, ANet listens and makes changes that fit their concepts

I'm very happy with Nightfall

its the 1st chapter that has inspired me to finish it with all my characters

I've finished NF with 4 chars and 9 more to go!

I like Torment more than Ring of Fire in Prophecies

I love that finishing Nightfall unlocks all the heroes
- Heroes give me *renewed* interest in the other chapters - using Heroes

I absolutely Love Nightfall.

I think the 'wow' factor that Nightfall + Prophecies have that factions doesn't is the idea of being a hero, leading armies throught the game for a great cause. In Prophecies it was you and the other 'chosen', leading First the Ascalonians, then The White Mantle, then the Dwarves etc, In Nightfall it is the Sunspears and the Vabbians, I like the feelingt hat you are the leader of a force acting for something great.

Factions kind of had this with the Luxons and Kurzicks, but throughtout the game it just seemed to me that you were Mhenlo/Togo's sidekicks, and not the real Hero of the game, or the leader of the armies.

I, too, absolutely love Guild Wars. I admit that there are a few things that irked me in Nightfall, but overall I think it's amazing and adds many great new features to the game.

Well done, ANet!

I too was never really interested in MMORPG games in the past. I was more interested in the Star Wars series and WW2 games. However Guild Wars had me hooked from the start.

Despite my wife absolutely hating this game (and any computer game actually) I play every chance I get. We have a baby due in mid January and I really don't know if I'll have a chance to play ofter that, so I'm getting my playtime in as much as I can now!

I love NF, plain and simple

Only thing I don't like about it is the nerf to preorder weapons, as such they aren't moddable anymore >_>

I love this game to death. I'm even trying to persuade my dad into giving me my christmas gift early (it's a new computer). Haven't played Nightfall yet, but excited to try out the new Hero system. However, I'm worried about it also, because from what I've read on the forum, it has been harder to get a party with all humans. Hero system might be cool and all, but I prefer to party with human players.
But everything else with the game is perfect. (Although the numbers of players in previous campaigns has decreased..)

I greatly enjoy the game as well. I used to play several online games, but I put them all aside for Guild Wars. Ok, I still play a few rounds of CS: Source now and then, but I pretty much spend my time playing GW now. If the game wasn't as great as it is I certainly wouldn't have put the time into it. Thanks again A-net.

I've been here from the start and have enjoyed the ride. An Auction House would make this game well rounded.. but i'm in no rush (well maybe a little heh) but the goodness way outweighs the negative. I'm already excited about Chapter 4 eheh is a bit early for that?
